Corporate Volunteering: Building Wildlife Nesting Boxes
Location: Port Phillip EcoCentre, St Kilda Availability: Year-round Group Size: Up to 15 Length: Full day Cost: Full day: $2800 + GST Program Themes: Building, woodwork, wildlife, habitat, nest boxes, parks, home
Despite the urban location, you’d be surprised at the abundance of wildlife located in and around the suburbs of Melbourne. Many of these wildlife species require hollows for shelter, but a lack of hollows in the urban environment make it a highly competitive place to live.
You will be tutored in nestbox construction before having a go at constructing your very own nestbox or two. Completed nestboxes will be distributed to private landholders and schools in the local area.
Your contribution will create meaningful change to urban habitat values and you’ll learn a new skill!
Morning tea and lunch are not included. There are nearby lunch options (cafés), or volunteers can bring their own.
The exact schedule depends on the activity, weather, tides and the preferences of the volunteers. We are happy to tailor it to your needs.
The cost per session includes: The services of knowledgeable, First Aid trained staff members,
all preparation, materials and equipment for the number of volunteers per activity, and liability and personal accident insurance for all volunteers. Costs of the activities are based on our staff costs and
the costs of running the day. This means that it is up to
the client to make sure the maximum number of volunteer spots is filled.
“It was a fun and social day! I enjoyed the opportunity to do an outdoor activity that helped the environment, while getting to know colleagues I don't get to talk to regularly.”
The EcoCentre acknowledges the Kulin Nations, including the Yalukut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung language group, traditional owners of the land on which we are located. We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Elder members of our multicultural community.
